Literacy goals

I will score in the proficient range in the word choice category

Use synonyms,
Use a thesaurus,
collaborate with my writing support group


I will increase my proficiency in sentence fluency

Have a mix of long and short sentences in each paragraph.
Be sure each sentence within each paragraph begins with a different word.
Be sure to have at least one sentence per paragraph that begins with preposition.
Be sure to have at least one sentence per paragraph that begins with a subordinating conjunction.


I will use 1 of the 3 introduction techniques in my essays

Look at the notes on introductions styles in School Fusion.
Look at the introductions on the sample essays on School Fusion.

use page 594 in the Write Source book to write my thesis statement,
look at the thesis statements on the sample essays

I will read 3 nonfiction articles on the topic of my choice by the end of 2nd quarter-

decide on my topics,
research for articles on those topics,
log the reading on my reading log,
do a reading reflection in my reading notes,
think about using one or more of the articles for an essay
